3C?S FOR QUILTERS-COLOR, CONTRAST, COMPOSITION

This class will be upstairs.  Come spend a day exploring simple color theory for quilters. Students will do several exercises using fabric scraps covering value, scale, and color choices. There’s no sewing in this class but we will be working with fabric – students need to bring many small pieces or scraps in a variety of colors and patterns. We’ll put together great combinations to make a reference notebook for your future use. This class is appropriate for students at all skill levels. This will be a fun, creative day.

Supply list:

Book “A Fiber Artist’s Guide to Color & Design” by Heather Thomas – available from Lyons Quilting

A color wheel – a very nice one is available from Lyons Quilting

Not required but strongly recommended – Ultimate 3 in 1 Color Tool from Joen Wolfrom – available from LQ

You may want to bring a binder or a folder with you to organize handouts and exercises.

FABRIC SCRAPS. Bring a lot of fabric scraps. Please bring a WIDE VARIETY of color and patterns. You do not need big pieces, 5” squares or smaller are just fine. Be prepared to share & trade scraps with your fellow students. Make sure you have lights and darks and many colors. VARIETY, VARIETY, VARIETY. You can bring any type of fabric – it doesn’t have to be all cotton.

Rotary cutter and/or fabric scissors.

Pre-class preparation: None!  We will also have plenty of time in class to work on fabric and color choices.
