SEW TOGETHER BAG
This small bag holds more than you think! Carry all your sewing tools in one secure package, thanks to 4 zippers. In this class, you’ll learn how easy it is to put in zippers and how to mix & match your zipper tabs. This bag also makes a great travel bag for jewelry and cosmetics, or about a thousand other uses.
Supply list:
Sew Together pattern by Sew Demented (available at Lyons Quilting)
Fabric per the pattern instructions – however the pocket lining can be 3 different fabrics (like in the picture above) – each piece needs to be at least 10” x 12”.
Pellon 906F Lightweight Fusible Interfacing – ½ yard (available at Lyons Quilting)
Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece – ½ yard (available at Lyons Quilting)
Pellon 809 Décor Bond – ¼ yard (available at Lyons Quilting)
Zippers – THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN THE PATTERN – buy 3 (three) 14” zippers and 1 (one) 22” zipper. They absolutely do not have to be the same color – in the picture above, I used 4 different colors. You need to make sure they are nylon coil YKK zippers – these are the sizes and type that you can buy at Lyons Quilting.
Sewing machine with zig zag capability with all the usual supplies, especially a quarter inch foot and a zipper foot. I recommend a size 90 needle. For thread, I recommend Aurifil for piecing – some of the stitching will show so pick a color that either doesn’t show at all or looks really pretty! In the picture, I sewed with bright turquoise thread.
Rotary cutter & quilter’s ruler – I recommend a 12 ½” square ruler but whatever you like best will be fine.
Marking pencils – bring one that will mark on dark fabrics & one that will mark on light fabric.
All your favorite sewing notions such as pins, scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, etc. I also recommend that you bring a bottle of Mary Ellen’s Best Press.
We will be taking a lunch break; you can either bring a lunch or we will be placing an order from Lyons Dairy Bar
Pre-class preparation: Before class, please prepare your exterior piece. You will want to cut a piece of fabric that measures 11” x 15” and fuse a piece of Pellon 987F Fusible Fleece that is the same size to the back of it. Then quilt it however you like – you can do as little as a few straight lines or you can get creative and use decorative stitches found on your machine. Another option is to piece the exterior fabric – use scraps or make your favorite quilt blocks. You just need to bring a prepared piece that measures approximately 11” x 15” to class. We will be cutting this down for the bag, it doesn’t have to be exact.
