BAG OF THE MONTH - A PLACE FOR EVERYTHING
Two class sessions: Tuesdays, January 16th & 30th , 10am-4pm both days
Holidays are over, time to make something very special for yourself! By popular request, the A Place for Everything bag class is here. This bag is perfect to organize and transport your sewing and other craft items to classes and retreats. Basically a little suitcase, it features two removeable “pages” with multiple zippered vinyl and mesh pockets of varying sizes. It has handles and a removeable shoulder strap.
As designed, this bag is already quite functional. But you may want to spend some effort to really personalize yours. One option, for example, is to use the Running With Scissors pattern bag interior layout as one of your pages to hold tools. Or make a page with smaller vinyl pockets for presser feet. Or make the bag deeper to hold more. One of our students plans to make multiple pages to change out for different class pursuits. Aesthetically, the pattern calls for use of three fabrics. But maybe you want to use more, or one of our colorful webbings for straps, rather than covering with fabric. The possibilities are endless, and it’s very worthwhile to plan.
This is an intermediate bagmaking class and it is advisable that you have previously worked with zippers, mesh, vinyl, bias binding, and thicknesses. The greatest overall challenge of this project is that it involves many steps and good organization.
Ahead of class, thoroughly review the pattern and start planning and making note of what all you would like your bag to hold. In the first class, we will focus on the pages: layouts, cutting out and construction. So it would be helpful to have the Quilted Set A quilted and cut out (pattern p.5), as well as having your bias binding ready to go. Graph paper will be provided to work out personalized page layouts, if you plan on doing that. Homework between classes will be to get everything else cut out, quilted as required and so you are ready to assemble and complete your bag in the second class.
Feel free to contact instructor with questions.
Bring a sack lunch and/or snacks, if you wish.
