BAGMAKING OCTOBER BAG OF THE MONTH - THE BY ANNIE TAKE A STAND
This bag pattern features two sizes of stand-up totes, each with adjustable shoulder straps. They are designed to open wide for easy access. In addition to being a tote, the smaller of the two was designed to be placed under the by Annie Running With Scissors tool case in the open position to prop it up to easily reach your tools. But this size could also be used for just about anything, such as cosmetics and toiletries, as a diaper bag, you name it. The larger size will hold a small sewing machine, such as a Featherweight. If you choose to make your bag for that use, or to carry any other heavier items, an acrylic base stabilizer is strongly recommended (and we can order the exact size you’ll need, if you wish). This larger bag also can hold lots of fabric, a small quilt, and it’s great for classes/retreats. It will hold both the Running With Scissors and smaller Take A Stand bags. Other than size difference, these bags are identical, so you may opt to make either size in this class.
Previous bagmaking experience will be very helpful. Skills you will use include working with foam stabilizer and quilting with that, zipper installation, sewing mesh, covering long webbing handles with fabric, working with bagmaking hardware including hooks and d-rings and applying bias binding. A bias binding hack that many find easier than the pattern instructions will also be demonstrated. You may opt to cut and quilt the pieces ahead of time and/or work on your project between the two classes. This is not required, however.
Bring a sack lunch and/or snacks, if you wish.
