THIS CLASS WILL BE IN OUR UPSTAIRS CLASSROOM

Have you purchased a charm pack because the fabric was

irresistible but now you’re not sure what to do with it? Lil Kira is a great tablerunner that uses 5” squares and gives you a way to provide contrast to the trickiest charm pack. This pattern has you cut up the 5” squares and sew them back together to get this cute pattern. Class will cover suggestions on how to increase or decrease the size. This class is appropriate for confident beginners or intermediate students who are familiar with rotary cutting and ¼” seams.

Lil Kira pattern by GE Designs – available from Lyons Quilting

Your favorite rotary cutting ruler. I recommend either a 12 ½” square Creative Grids ruler or a 6 ½” x 12 ½” Creative Grids ruler. Both are available from Lyons Quilting. Also bring any square ruler that has a diagonal line corner to corner and measures at least 6 ½” square.

Fabric per the pattern. Charm packs are wonderful but remember that you need contrast to show off this cute design. You truly need to have ½ light and ½ dark. If your charm pack has little contrast in value, you may want to buy yardage for ½ of the squares. If you need help, Mary will give you assistance during class or you can call her to make an appointment for help prior to class.

Sewing machine with all the usual supplies including a quarter inch foot. I recommend a size 80 needle. For thread, I highly recommend Aurifil – any neutral color.

Rotary cutter - Please put a new blade in your rotary cutter.

Marking pencils – bring one that will mark on dark fabrics & one that will mark on light fabric. I recommend Sew Line ceramic chalk pencils.

All your favorite sewing notions such as pins, scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, etc. I also recommend that you bring a bottle of Mary Ellen’s Best Press.

Pre-class preparation: None. If you would like help before class picking out fabrics, contact Mary to make an appointment. We will also have plenty of time in class to work on fabric and color choices.

We will be taking a lunch break – feel free to bring your lunch (we have a frig & microwave in the classroom) or we will also be ordering in from a local restaurant.
