QUILTING 101

Learn how to make this bright and shining quilt, from start to finish. This 4-session class will take you through the entire quilting process: fabric selection, rotary cutting, precise machine piecing, half-square and quarter-square triangles, sandwiching, quilting, and binding. Make the wall size shown, or a larger size. This class is appropriate for beginning quilters who are ready to add triangles to their skill set.

Supply list:

  • “You Are My Sunshine” pattern by Pinecone Hill

  • Rotary cutter with a fresh blade, and acrylic ruler (I recommend: a 45 mm cutter; and a rectangular ruler that is between 12” and 24” long, and 3” to 6” wide). Cutting mats are provided for use during class.

  • Sewing machine, feet, bobbins and needles (size 80/12 is recommended)

  • All purpose piecing thread (usually in a color to match background, or a neutral, e.g. white, gray, beige)

  • The basics: pins, needles, seam ripper, scissors

  • Fabric: Session #1 will include “how to choose fabrics” and time to shop, so it is not necessary to have your fabrics purchased beforehand

  • Other optional supplies will be discussed in class, allowing plenty of time to acquire them.

  • There will be a break for lunch, so you may bring a lunch or make a quick run to a nearby restaurant for takeout.
