This class will be upstairs in our new classroom!
Don’t you love flowers? Come learn how to make this beautiful flower block. The curves are very gentle and the pattern is written for trimming after each major step so your results will be perfect. You can make just a block or two for a table topper or make lots and lots for a quilt any size you would like. Use lots of fabrics for a scrappy look or choose just a few special fabrics for a more coordinated look. Suitable for a confident beginner who is ready to try sewing easy curves
Posh Penelope pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful – available from Lyons Quilting
Quick Curve Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful – available from Lyons Quilting – this is the full sized ruler, not the mini.
You will need a square ruler, at least 6 ½” square, with a diagonal line (45° line) going corner to corner for block trimming – if you don’t have one, they are available at Lyons Quilting.
Each block measures 12” square when finished. The pattern will give you some ideas for yardage if you’re using a single fabric for the background. The class sample was made from fat quarters and scraps. Mary will help you with fabric selections, either during class or you can make an appointment prior to class for additional help.
Sewing machine with all the usual supplies including a quarter inch foot. I recommend a size 80 needle. For thread, I highly recommend Aurifil – any neutral color.
Rotary cutter & quilter’s ruler – Bring your favorite straight ruler for cutting strips. Please put a new blade in your rotary cutter.
Marking pencils – bring one that will mark on dark fabrics & one that will mark on light fabric. I recommend Sew Line ceramic chalk pencils.
All your favorite sewing notions such as pins, scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, etc. I also recommend that you bring a bottle of Mary Ellen’s Best Press.
Pre-class preparation: None. If you would like help before class picking out fabrics, contact Mary to make an appointment. We will also have plenty of time in class to work on fabric and color choices.
We will be taking a lunch break – feel free to bring your lunch (we have a frig & microwave in the classroom) or we will also be ordering in from a local restaurant.
