This modern quilt uses 3 classic quilt blocks – log cabin, square in a square, and triangles within squares – for a totally fresh look. The 3 block shapes are deceptively tricky and will help a confident beginner improve piecing skills – Mary will show you how to master them perfectly! This class is suitable for a quilter who has experience with rotary cutting and sewing ¼” seams. Make it scrappy like the class sample or choose just a few fabrics – we can help you make the quilt your own.
Hestia pattern by Thread Bare Creations (available at Lyons’ Quilting)
Tri-Recs Ruler by EZ Quilting (available at Lyons’ Quilting)
Fabric – This will depend on many fabrics you want to use! The pattern gives yardage for using just a few but you can also make a scrappy version like the class sample. If you want to go scrappy, bring a large sample with you to class. You can also make the quilt smaller if you wish. Mary will help you with this – feel free to contact Mary prior to class to discuss.
Machine Sewing Thread – 50 weight neutral color, this thread won’t show
Sewing machine with all the usual supplies, especially a quarter inch foot. I recommend using a size 80 needle for this project. In this class, you are expected to have experience operating your sewing machine.
Rotary cutter & quilter’s ruler – in addition to the Tri-Recs ruler set, I recommend bringing your favorite rotary cutting rulers, especially a good square such as a Creative Grids 12 ½”.
All your favorite sewing notions such as scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, pins, etc. Please also bring your favorite marking tools that will mark on light and dark fabrics. Mary also recommends Mary Ellen’s Best Press.
We will be taking a lunch break; you can either bring a lunch or we will be placing an order from Lyons Dairy Bar
Pre-class preparation: None. In this class, you are expected to have experience with rotary cutting. You will have the space to cut out in class.
