Ditty Bag pattern
Fabric – You need 3 fat quarters – one for the outside of the bag, one for the accent stripe & other details, and the 3rd one for the bag lining.
You need a piece of polyester-covered foam (such as Pellon Flexible Foam or Soft n Stable) that is about the size of a fat quarter.
Thread – 40 or 50 weight thread – pick a pretty color, your stitching will show.
Zipper – 14” zipper is great for the medium or small size – 22” for the large size.
Sewing machine with all the usual supplies, especially a quarter inch foot and a walking foot if you have one. I recommend using a size 90 needle for this project. In this class, you are expected to have experience operating your sewing machine.
Rotary cutter & quilter’s ruler – bring the longest one you have.
Pins – I recommend bring long flexible pins such as the ones with flowers, butterflies or buttons as heads. You might also want to have clips.
All your favorite sewing notions such as scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, etc.
We will be taking a lunch break; you can either bring a lunch or we will be placing an order from Lyons Dairy Bar
Pre-class preparation: Please cut out the large piece for the outer bag and lining per the pattern. Sandwich these pieces with the flexible foam & quilt as desired. Mary bastes the fabrics to the flexible foam using a very light amount of Elmer’s School Glue (NOT ALL PURPOSE!). If you can’t do this in advance of the class, that will be just fine. You probably won’t finish your bag in class but you WILL see every step of construction.
