JANET FOGG WORKSHOP

Janet Fogg has a whole line of wonderful animal quilts. Her patterns are well designed, but require a bit of thought. Come learn how to turn her graphs into your wonderful quilt. We’ll cover beginning paper piecing, traditional piecing, raw edge applique and turned edge machine applique (you get to pick which one you want to do!).

Supply list:

Any Janet Fogg pattern (available at Lyons Quilting)

Fabric per the pattern instructions - You won’t do any cutting prior to class so if you’d like me to help you select fabrics, you can either wait until class or make an appointment with Mary to meet at Lyons Quilting prior to class! You can also ask any of the LQ shop personnel for assistance.

Sewing machine with all the usual supplies, especially a quarter inch foot.  I recommend a size 80 needle. For thread, I recommend Aurifil for piecing – any neutral color is fine, the stitching doesn’t show. You will also need Rotary cutter & quilter’s ruler – I recommend a 12 ½” square ruler but whatever you like best will be fine.

Marking pencils – bring one that will mark on dark fabrics & one that will mark on light fabric.

You will need both paper scissors and fabric scissors.

All your favorite sewing notions such as pins, scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, etc. I also recommend that you bring a bottle of Mary Ellen’s Best Press.

Turned edge machine applique also requires these items: a spool of Superior MonoPoly thread; a spool of neutral Superior Bottom Line thread; a roll of freezer paper (you can get it at the grocery store); a small paint brush (fine tipped not suitable for painting rooms or wood); and a can of Magic Sizing spray starch (it’s lighter weight than regular starch but heavier body than Best Press.

Raw edge applique requires these items: a yard or two of Steam a Seam Lite 2; a roll of freezer paper; and an applique pressing sheet.

We will be taking a lunch break; you can either bring a lunch or we will be placing an order from Lyons Dairy Bar

Pre-class preparation: Please drop me an email to tell me which of Janet Fogg’s patterns you will be working with.  You might want to have your fabrics pressed.
