PAINTED FOREST
SUPPLY LIST
Painted Forest pattern by Blue Nickel Studios (available at Lyons Quilting)
Fabric per the pattern instructions - I made the background from 12 fat quarters, but you can use 3 yards of a single fabric or any combination of fabrics totaling 3 yards. I used assorted black/charcoal fabrics; the pattern envelope shows the background in light/white fabrics.
For the tree “leaves” and trunks, you will want a variety of fabric. I’d recommend a minimum of 12 different fabrics for the “leaves” – but the more, the better. Some of the pieces are larger but many are quite small so scraps work fine! For the trunks, I used my favorite “Grunge” fabrics by Moda. You will want cuts that are at least fat quarters to for the trunks (or scraps that are ½ WOF or WOF) to reduce the amount of piecing you have to do.
If you want help selecting the fabrics, Mary will be happy to help you during the class or ask any Lyons Quilting shop personnel for assistance!
Sewing machine with all the usual supplies, especially a quarter inch foot. I recommend a size 80 needle. For thread, I recommend Aurifil for piecing – any neutral color is fine, the stitching doesn’t show.
Rotary cutter & quilter’s ruler – I recommend a 12 ½” square ruler but whatever you like best will be fine.
Marking pencils – bring one that will mark on dark fabrics & one that will mark on light fabric.
All your favorite sewing notions such as pins, scissors, tweezers, seam ripper, etc. I also recommend that you bring a bottle of Mary Ellen’s Best Press.
We will be taking a lunch break; you can either bring a lunch or we will be placing an order from Lyons Dairy Bar
Pre-class preparation: None! You might want to have your fabrics pressed.
