Once it’s pieced, it’s quilted! Use a quilt-as-you-go technique to make this lovely reversible quilt. The back and the front are sewn at the same time. You’ll be amazed at how fast and easy this technique is.

seam ripper, etc.
Fabric for the size quilt shown*: (other sizes are shown on the back of the pattern)
3/8 yds. each of 15 fabrics—5 fabrics in 3 different color families**
Sashing—2 yds. **
Front Border—1 ¼ yds.**
Batting—2 Lap size (45” X 60”) or 1 Twin—I strongly recommend cotton bats,
not polyester. A thin bat is easier to use with this technique. You may want to pre-wash your batting using the package instructions. You’ll only soak it in the machine & spin dry—do NOT agitate.
*Note: You are getting ALL of the fabric for the front and back of the quilt at the same time as well as the batting. This is a “quilt-as-you-go” quilt, so we are sewing both the back and front together at the same time, and when the top is done, the entire quilt is done!
**Some ideas for fabric choices: Start by choosing a multi-colored outer border fabric. Choose 3 color families that go with that fabric (say blue, green, violet) and for the lap quilt you’ll need 5 fabrics in each family. (The pattern lists how many fabrics are need for other sizes.) The sashing fabric should be a strong contrast to the braids—either darker value or different color.
Batiks look great in this quilt and are a dense, sturdy weave. Of course, all cotton quilting fabrics will work.
